Norm Study Data

Anonymous, de-identified response data contributed by students who opted in. Use this to compute empirical Indian-adolescent norms and update the NORMS table once you reach sufficient sample size (target: n≥2,000 for publication-grade, n≥500 for preliminary).

Validation Status

Honest reference for what's been verified and what hasn't. Use this when answering questions from parents, schools, or partners about CareerJenie's quality claims. Updated v24.

• Established psychometric frameworks. RIASEC (Holland), Big Five (Costa & McCrae), Gardner Multiple Intelligences, Schein Career Anchors, VARK, India-context items. Items derived from open-licensed inventories (IPIP, O*NET RIASEC) and original India-context items.
• Internal consistency by design. Each construct uses 5-25 items in a 5-point Likert scale. Scoring code is single-source and tested via 32 automated regressions covering edge cases.
• 265 NCO-2015 careers indexed. Each career has primary/secondary/tertiary RIASEC codes, suggested degrees, sample salary ranges, and Indian institutional pathways.
• 99 careers (~37%) have role-specific overrides. The remaining 166 use family-template content (still useful, less specific).
• Stream Suitability for Class 9/10 across all 7 boards (CBSE, ICSE, STATE, IGCSE, IB, NIOS, VOCA) verified by code inspection.
• Counsellor-mode separation from student-facing report. Internal flags (HIGH/MED/LOW priority, sensitive D6 indicators) shown only in counsellor view.
• Transparent emerging careers section per top-3 career match.
• No DMIT, no pseudoscience. Tool does not claim biological-determinism or "fingerprint" predictions.

• Indian-adolescent norms. Current percentile bands use approximations from international literature. Empirical Indian norms are being collected through opt-in Norm Study (see other tab) but require n≥500 for preliminary publication and n≥2,000 for publication-grade.
• Stream-board coverage of role-specific overrides. Engineering, medical, commerce, design/creative, law/civil services, education are well-covered. Aviation/hospitality, niche research, agriculture, sports careers still use family templates.
• Aptitude objective test (28 items, timed). Reasonable face validity but no published reliability or validity coefficients yet.
• Subject-interest weights are calibrated by reasoning about what should happen, not against pilot outcomes. Outcome-shaped questions (mainSubject / avoidSubject / hobbyLikeSubject) added v23.

• "Best in India" / "world-class". No comparative study against Mindler, BrainWonders, iDreamCareer, or Univariety has been conducted. CareerJenie has differentiating strengths (transparency, no pseudoscience, counsellor-mode separation) but a comparative claim requires comparative evidence.
• Predictive validity. No longitudinal data on whether students who got "Career X at #1" actually pursued Career X 3-5 years later. This is a 3-5 year research project, not a deliverable.
• External psychometric review. No third-party validation by an independent psychometrician or peer-reviewed publication.
• Cap enforcement is client-side. A determined attacker who reads the source could bypass maxLimit for a free promo code by editing localStorage. For the pilot use case (codes shared with known schools) this is acceptable. For public deployment, server-side validation via Firebase Cloud Functions would be required.

Strong (use this): “A thoughtfully designed psychometric career assessment for Indian Class 9-12 students. Combines RIASEC interests, Big Five personality, multiple intelligences, India-context factors, and 28-item objective aptitude. Transparent methodology, no pseudoscientific claims, counsellor-grade reports.”

Avoid: “Best in India,” “world-class,” “most accurate,” “guaranteed career match,” or any claim implying predictive certainty. Replace with what's actually true: thoughtful design, transparent methodology, established psychometric foundations.

1. n≥300 pilot students with 1-year follow-up. Ask each student a year later: "Did you choose the stream/career we suggested? How well does it fit you in retrospect?" Record results. This generates real predictive-validity data.
2. External psychometric review. Commission a working psychometrician (e.g., Dr. Andre Scoutaris-Walker style consultant or an academic at TISS Mumbai / Christ University Bengaluru) to review item bank, scoring weights, and norm derivation. Cost: Rs. 1.5-3 lakh for a 4-6 week engagement.
3. Publish a validation paper. Submit to Indian Journal of Psychology, Journal of Vocational Behavior, or Career Development Quarterly after collecting 500-2000 norm sample.
4. Cover remaining 166 careers. Continue the JL/INST override batches (8 more sessions, ~20 careers per session).
